“Day Four” – Bloc Party
Aug 2012 01

Late passss. Bloc Party gives us the first single, “Day Four”, which Trushes at you with sad, orchestral strings, contrasted with bubbly, floating sounds of hope. Their British rock appeal and emotion-filled vocals complete the song and remind me of a rainy, Spring day: simple, peaceful, and spreading new hope.

The softer song is featured on their upcoming album, Four, due out in select countries August 20th!

Musikk Video: “Constant Conversations” – Passion Pit
Aug 2012 01

If you read my emotional review of Passion Pit’s sophomore album, Gossamer, it will come as no surprise that i had chills within 40 seconds of watching their latest video for “Constant Conversations”. The R&B infused indie record reflects the deeply personal struggle with frontman, Michael Angelakos, and his adjustment to his life of fame while managing Bi-Polar disorder.

Now you’re standing in the kitchen

And you’re pouring out my drink

And there is a very obvious difference

And it’s that one of us can think

The group enlists their Hollywood friends in the making of this video with features from Peter Bogdanovich, Analeigh Tipton, Taryn Manning and Roger Guenveur Smith. Directed by Dori Oskowitz, the video showcases the ritzy life of the elite, with beautiful people, indiscretions, distrust, and lust. The sensual visual is rawly beautiful, but filled with heartbreak and loneliness.

Delilah – Inside My Love [REDLIGHT REMIX]
Aug 2012 01

Delilah delights with this Redlight Remix of her jam, “Inside My Love,” which combines an otherworldly tone with some bass you your face synth! The video is stunningly simplistic, yet hard to take your eyes off of. It’s a huge departure from her original video, which is a beautiful bedroom ballet between lovers. Like the remix, the new video above is much darker & more aggressive, evoking memories of underground house clubs. Love it!

“Angels” – The xx (Love Thy Brother Remix)
Aug 2012 02

Love Thy Brother created one of the best remixes for Daughter’s, “Youth”, that still makes the rotation in my iTunes library. Upon seeing that they remixed The xx’s latest song, “Angels”, I promptly added that to my top list as well.

The xx created a serene and delicate track that emanates a sense of innocence that is all too pure for other producers and dj’s to just let be; It’s quickly gaining traction in the remix category, but Love Thy Brother is the first one to truly impress, and set the new standard.

They infuse the soft song with a subtle drum beat and bubbly synths, that build into a powerful progression; The duo manages to keep the essence of the song, and never once overpowers it’s basic simplicity.

The remix resonates with a rock-powered vibe and sweetly somber undertones from the original vocals.

Lovin’ this. Must download.

Musikk Video: “As Long As You Love Me” – Justin Bieber ft. Big Sean
Aug 2012 02

Biebssss. ‘Hit the road’ boi.

The crossover star lays down the Blockbuster quality visuals in “As Long As You Love Me” – with Michael Jackson d-floor moves, and steamy, lust filled shots. Bieber gets down and dirty in more ways than one in this dark & intense music video; A modern day story of two star-crossed lovers, JT and his leading lady are one hell of a couple – intertwined in teenage angst, love, angry parents, and of course, bed sheets.

Bieber is really pushing his new grown up attitude – what do you think of the new Justin?

Musikk Video: “Language” – Porter Robinson
Aug 2012 02

How fitting that I’ve randomly been listening to “Language” all week, and Porter Robinson went ahead and released some stellar visuals for it. With eye-catching natural landscapes, fantasy creatures, and a high speed chase, the video culminates with the young woman finding her inner strength and facing her fears. I love videos with end-of-scene morals – it always reminds me of Full House episodes.

“Language” is one of the most uplifting house tracks that has come out this year, and all the while managed to be the best without any language (vocals). How ironic!

Sunnies Friday: “Thinkin Bout You (Ryan Hemsworth Bootleg)”, Frank Ocean
Aug 2012 03

Good morning over here on the west coast. I know it’s well into Friday afternoon back east, but in good old Portland, Oregon the masses are still filing into work. What better way to get over the painful reminder of the fun you had last night than a smooth remix of an even smoother track.

Since it first leaked in late July 2011 I’ve been a huge fan of Frank Ocean‘s “Thinkin Bout You” (check out my post about the unofficial video from way back in September of last year). The song is arguably the strongest from his critically-acclaimed debut album, Channel Orange, so I was a little weary when I first came across Ryan Hemsworth’s remix.

After giving it a couple listens, I gotta say that overall Ryan did a great job. He fills out the song and adds some really interesting touches that gives the track a new feel but still stays true to the original. My only gripe comes around 2:30 in the song where I feel the effects overpower Frank’s vocals too much. On the whole, though, the Ryan Hemsworth Bootleg is at the very least worth a listen (and in my opinion a download). Don’t just take it from me; the remix is currently sitting pretty at #1 on Hype Machine’s most popular tracks.

Sunnies Friday is dedicated to everyone out there who is rewarded by Thursday with a hangover Friday morning; The song dedicated to the cause will be inspirational, easy to listen to, and help you be on the mend for your friday night which starts in a few short hours.
