For anyone who has been reading Fresh Musikk from the start, you’ll know that I am a huge fan of Timeflies; Cal and Rez are super talented and are a force to be reckoned with when they combine their skills. I usually don’t post promo videos, but The Scotch Tape is for sure to be one of the best mixtapes of the year, up there with Hoodie’s latest drop. Scheduled to be making waves later this summer, this video will get you all revved up; Until then, tune into their #timefliestuesdays videos which are equally as impressive and help you start off the week right.

“Drinkin every night because we drink to my accomplishments”

Hell yes, and that’s no exaggeration for Drake. Is Canada taking over the US? Bieber Fever runs rampant through tweeny boppers, and Drake continues to infect everything he touches – throw the Weeknd into the mix and we already know there’s a future epidemic approaching…
Yesterday, Drizzy dropped the rumored first single, “Headlines”, off of his upcoming sophomore album, Take Care, and it’s definitely a smash hit. With a smooth beat, and Drake’s signature verses and easy hooks, this song explores fame & excess, and regret, and will be hitting the airwaves soon. Although everyone wishes summer could be never ending, the October release of Take Care offers something to look forward to with the fall weather looming ahead…

If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ll see a pattern of artists who we feature more than others since these are some of our favorites – Pj Simas, Timeflies, Cris Cab, Trey Palms, Aer, Hoodie Allen… I could go on.So you won’t be suprised to see another post about Pj Simas. Simas nailed yet another one with this remix. Simas released “Sail Away” yesterday, which samples Seattle indie artist Fences’ vocals from the official remix of Macklemore’s Otherside. I usually listen to Pj Simas while getting ready to go out on the weekends or for a pump up workout song because he’s usually upbeat with his remixes like “Liar Liar” and “Ocean Drop” , but this track is much darker, which makes me excited to see his different emotions. And lucky for us, his new song with G Curtis is dropping TODAY, so I’m sure you’ll hear back from us soon!

** UPDATE
Hmmm, impressed!

G. Curtis’s album, Maximum Volume, dropped on iTunes today, and is a radio ready compilation of r&b, and hip-hop, with some pop flavor added in. I first heard G. Curtis a little while back when he hit up Sam Adams on his song, “Still I Rise” – he has smooth r&b vocals, and can hit that falsetto in his songs. Sam Adams joins him on his album this time, along with Cal of Timeflies, PJ Simas, Boston- bred Cam Meekins, and more.
“Weekend Girlfriend” is the instant stand out – giving us a dance party beat, catchy hook, and Cal’s signature vocals. “Fastlyfe” also has the potential to hit up the charts, and features Cam Meekins, who definitely impressed me with his quick verse; This is the first time where Meekins has truly captured my attention by proving his growth and development as a young rapper.
So let’s get down to it. Overall opinion of Maximum Volume: I liked it. Although it isn’t super original or anything mind blowing, it has a mainstream appeal and features multiple songs that I believe could be featured on the airwaves. G. Curtis showed support of his fellow up and comers by utilizing them to make some sweet collabs, which I also commend. Support his music by grabbing the album or a track or two on iTunes.

* Once I find a link for “Weekend Girlfriend” I’ll get it up- Until then, stream it on iTunes. Yo 1st Round – get a video up on YouTube to listen!
HOLD UP… Here’s the video – Produced by Rex Arrow Films, it’s obviously very professionally done- fresh visuals, not feelin’ the chicks’ bathing suits…Cal, I’ll be your vid girl instead

I may be one of the few, but I was not a fan of Chris Brown’s smasher, “Deuces” which featured a collab from Kevin McCall, BUT these two songs from the duo are on point!
McCall’s “Rest of My Life,” starts off slow as the beat builds, and culminates with an almost acapella falsetto. Sweet lovin’ music – turn it on at the end of the date…
On the flip side, Kevin assists Breezy on his song, “Strip”, which is very “Chris Brown-esque.” Gets your head bumping with a slight booty shake…If this was remixed with a harder beat it could be really good.

* Now, I wouldn’t call myself a CB Hater – but a big part of me feels wicked guilty that I’m posting 3 solid CB songs in the last week. Damn Breezy, why’d you have to get all crazy on us? But, if Bieber can forgive him, I guess so can I…?

This dubstep mashup has the perfect build up, with a lighter airy sound over an edgier beat, followed by an epic drop. Smash + Destroy, aka Smash Gorden and Dieselboy, combine Feed Me’s “Cloudburn” ft Tasha Baxter, with Luda’s notorious banger, “How Low” creating a variance of tight coils and heavy whomps, contrasted with the eerily simpler vocals from “Cloudburn.”
Lemme let the song talk.
